Philippe Coutinho’s potential return to Vasco de Gama from Aston Villa has become stuck because of his demands.
That’s according to GE and former striker and ‘ally’ of Vasco president Pedrinho, Edmundo, who has claimed that the club did not appreciate the demands made by the midfielder and his agent.
Coutinho has been edging towards a return to Brazil over the last few weeks, with it explained that Aston Villa are keen to get him out of the club and off of the wage bill.
The latest report indicated that a deal was now done for him to leave Villa Park on a free transfer and from there he will be returning to Vasco de Gama, the club where he started his career before moving to Inter Milan in 2008.
“The demands made by Philippe Coutinho did not please Pedrinho, from what I heard”, they quote him saying.
“Between the parties, everything is resolved. He needs to settle with Aston Villa. Today, upon returning to Rio de Janeiro, he must look for Philippe Coutinho and complete this signing if he meets the demands made. I don’t understand it, but I won’t say what it is.”
GE follow this up and explain that Coutinho’s current deal with Aston Villa runs until the middle of 2026 and while he is heading towards an agreement to end that early, it all depends on an agreement with Vasco.
He’s set to meet with the Brazilian side again in the coming days but won’t close his agreement with Villa until his agreement with Vasco is 100% tied up.
That all depends on Pedrinho, who, according to Edmundo, was left unimpressed by the initial demands presented by Coutinho and his agent.
