Borussia Mönchengladbach are keen on retaining Maximilian Wöber, after signing him on loan from Leeds United last summer.
On Monday, the defender said he hasn’t been approached yet by either the German club or the Whites. Gladbach sporting director Roland Virkus insisted they are in talks with the 26-year-old and that Leeds aren’t budging.
Tuesday’s edition of Rheinische Post states Leeds are insisting on a ‘double digit million sum’, meaning €10m or more for the centre-back. His current market valuation is said to be €14m.
“At the moment the numbers are quite high. We have to make sure we get closer,” he said.
Leeds are third in the Championship table, a point behind second placed Leicester City, who have a game in hand.
Even if the Whites were to secure direct promotion to the top flight, Rheinische Post say the German club will not have the funds to buy the Austria international.
If they were to make it to the play-offs, the final will take place on May 26th, after Gladbach’s last fixture of this season.
Leeds are hoping for Wöber to impress at the Euros so that other clubs could take notice and join the race to sign him in the next window.
Mönchengladbach, for their part, have informed the Whites man that they want to retain him, but it won’t be easy due to the cost of the operation.
