There are few certainties in life, we all know this.
After all, Arsenal finishing in the top four had become one of them in recent years, but even that has gone out of the window now.
However, the Gunners are involved in what could become a new certainty, and that is Karim Benzema being linked with them on a yearly basis.
The Real Madrid striker has been sent to the Emirates more times than we can count over the past few years, only to remain at the Santiago Bernabéu at the end of each transfer window.
On Sunday, Don Balon reported the (former?) France international had asked his agent to find him a new club after a rather poor season for the soon-to-be Champions League finalists, which immediately led to Arsenal-based articles across the tabloids.
That’s where things stood up until Wednesday morning, when Corriere dello Sport decided to go one step further by claiming Arsenal were already in talks with the Real Madrid striker regarding a summer move to London.
Again, before you get a bit too excited, let’s put their information into context.
This snippet of news is casually thrown in the middle of an article looking at who AC Milan and their €150m could target in the summer.
Signing Karim Benzema would, obviously, be a huge coup for the Serie A club, as they try to rebuild a slightly toppled dynasty, but the likelihood of such a transfer coming off is slim to none.
That’s why, in true gentlemanly fashion for the Milanistas reading the article, slipping in he is set to go elsewhere softens the blow of them never actually signing the French forward.
It’s a bit like fake-throwing a ball for a puppy, only to stroke it afterwards.
The end result is the same: little to no disappointment for puppy and AC Milan fans alike.
