Two months ago, Rheinische Post stated Borussia Mönchengladbach are juggling finances to try and buy Maximilian Wöber, who’s currently on loan from Leeds United.
On February 29th, we covered claims from Germany that the Bundesliga side have a ‘clear’ plan to retain the defender and will soon start talks with the Whites. It was also stated a deal won’t be cheap.
This week’s edition of SportBild mentions the Leeds owned player when discussing the German club’s plans to restructure their squad for next season.
Mönchengladbach are planning to make significant changes and their aim is to build a team around homegrown players. To do this, they’ll have to raise funds and one way to achieve that is through selling some of their current players.
They currently have the Austria international and Jordan Siebatcheu on loan, and the report states the latter will be retained by exercising the €5m purchase option. However, the 26-year-old defender is ‘unlikely to stay’.
Wöber has made 20 league starts this season, and despite this, he’s unlikely to be retained. SportBild claim it would cost up to €15m to buy the Leeds man.
This indicates Gladbach have changed their stance, after earlier showing a firm desire to hold on to the defender.
