Manchester United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir has admitted his recent debut for the club was an ‘unforgettable memory’ that he won’t be letting go for some time.
The goalkeeper has been speaking back in his homeland, with his comments made to DHA, during which he described the ‘indescribable feeling’ of making his debut for the Red Devils.
The 25-year-old made his first appearance for Manchester United in the recent FA Cup clash with Newport County, having spent the rest of this season sat on the bench.
He joined United in the summer transfer window in a €5m deal from Fenerbahce but arrived at Old Trafford knowing he was taking up a secondary role behind big summer signing Andre Onana.
Onana’s absence thanks to the Africa Cup of Nations provided Bayindir with his chance against Newport, though, and he was delighted to take it, admitting the sight of Turkish flags among Manchester United’s home fans is something he can’t get over.
“It was truly an indescribable feeling for me,” he said.
“Being a football player and seeing our flag flying at Old Trafford is too indescribable to be described in words. I don’t know how this can be explained, but I can say it in one word, ‘pride’.
“I am very happy and proud to play my first match with this jersey. I was very excited from the first moment I warmed up. Playing the first match is always an unforgettable memory.”
