Siem De Jong is currently on loan at PSV from Newcastle United. The 28 year old moved in the summer after only playing 447 Premier League minutes for Newcastle last season, and not being able to help Rafael Benitez’s men stay up.
It wouldn’t immediately look like De Jong has a serious long term Newcastle United future, he’s only played 950 Eredivisie minutes this season.
Whilst De Jong has already spoken about an outline desire to return to Newcastle if they are promoted, there are question marks over whether Benitez would want him for the Premier League.
De Jong has a Newcastle United contract until June 2020, and a decision will have to be made on his future this summer.
At PSV, Siem is with his brother Luuk, who has just been dropped by the manager. Luuk also played for Newcastle United, and struggled, but did much better when returning to Dutch football.
Concerned about his brother’s future, Siem De Jong has been quoted by De Telegraaf as saying: “Luuk will do everything to come back, but I just hope he gets support because for two years he’s meant a lot to PSV… and then I hope that people continue to support him.”
