On Tuesday, Sport stated Barcelona are very attentive to Manchester City’s Julián Álvarez as they are looking for a long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski.
It was also stated the World Cup winner’s reported release clause of €50m would favour the La Liga side in a potential deal.
Today’s Sport again talks about the Catalan club’s interest in the Manchester City star and their report adds that he’s the one they ‘like the most’.
The Argentina international has a deal until 2028 and it’s said the potential transfer won’t be easy because the Citizens are ‘not selling’ him.
Despite this, the Blaugrana are still chasing him, and it’s stated the 23-year-old already held talks with them a few months ago. At that point he’s said to have signalled that he would welcome a change, as long as he’d be the first-choice striker.
That is something he cannot fulfil at the Etihad because Erling Haaland has been leading Manchester City’s attack.
Barcelona have already tried signing the South American on loan in the past but Pep Guardiola’s side blocked the transfer.
In order to sign him in the future, Sport say the Spanish giants will have to sell some of their attackers, to raise funds and also make room in their wage bill.
Álvarez sees Barcelona as a ‘great option’ but negotiating a deal with Manchester City will not be easy.
