Barcelona’s interest in Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez is once again reported by the Catalan media today.

This time, it’s Sport who feature a story claiming the Camp Nou side are ‘very attentive’ to the 23-year-old.

Barcelona are said to be looking for a replacement for Robert Lewandowski, and since Vitor Roque is just a bet for the future, the Manchester City player shows up in their list.

It’s said both Xavi and the club’s management like Alvarez. He’s  praised for his versatility and the options he could give to Barça’s attack.

Following reports saying Alvarez has a €50m release clause at Manchester City, that’s said to be something on Barcelona’s favour, although that’s still to be confirmed and feels unlikely.

Against the Catalan side, there’s obviously the Premier League club’s wish to keep the player. Sport claim Pep Guardiola is ‘in love’ with him, and Txiki Befitistain doesn’t want him gone either.

Since Alvarez renewed his contract this year and is committed to Manchester City until 2028, there doesn’t seem to be many reasons for him to force a way out, so Barcelona would need to have very convincing arguments to make that transfer possible.
