Former Leeds United sporting director Nicola Salerno has told the Italian media he would again consider working under Massimo Cellino. Salerno is the current Palermo sporting director after three seasons in England with Leeds United and Watford.
Ilovepalermocalcio have reported on comments Salerno made when asked about his friendship with the Leeds United chief and whether he would join up with him again.
Cellino has been linked with a return to Italian football with Brescia, and it’s something Salerno would consider. However, the Italian said despite his close friendship with Cellino he still has a contract with Palermo to see out.
“So many ups and downs, but we are bound by a deep friendship. When he called me at Leeds, I said yes without thinking twice. I have a contract with Palermo and I intend to respect it. Then we’ll see,” said Salerno.
Cellino appointed Salerno as the Leeds United sporting director when he purchased the club in 2014. The pair had previously worked together when Cellino owned Cagliari.
When Salerno came to Leeds United he adopted a policy of bringing in players from Italy, including the likes of Tommaso Bianchi, Giuseppe Bellusci and Mirco Antenucci.
