Leeds United forward Wilfried Gnonto is now being ‘evaluated’ by Atalanta after they lost summer signing El Bilal Toure to injury.
That’s according to Calcio Atalanta, who say the Italian side ‘could target’ Gnonto as a replacement for their stricken striker.
The website explains that with El Bilal Toure facing a ‘probable long lay’ off just weeks after arriving at the club, the club are making assessments on how to replace him.
They need a more complete squad as they face a year competing in three competitions and Gnonto could help to reinforce their options.
The Italian striker is pushing to leave Leeds following their relegation to the Championship but, unlike many of his teammates at Elland Road, doesn’t have a release clause in his current contract.
Leeds have so far remained determined to keep hold of him, insisting he will not be sold, even after the player put in a formal transfer request.
That’s left Gnonto training alone, insisting his mind is not in the right place to play for Leeds at this moment in time.
Everton have been pushing to get a deal over the line while Gnonto’s agents have also been offering him around Italy, particularly to Roma.
Now Atalanta could enter the race and those in charge at the club have ‘sounded out the feasibility’ of transfer taking place this summer. It’s not clear if they’ve asked about a loan deal or a full transfer.
Either way, a deal is not seen as easy to do given Leeds continue to insist they’re not interested in negotiating anything regarding Gnonto this summer.
