Tottenham defender Sergio Reguilón will be returning to the club from his loan spell at Atlético de Madrid after he spent ‘more time in the infirmary than on the pitch’ this season.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who say there is no hope that the defender will be remaining at the Wanda Metropolitano beyond the end of the season.
Reguilón moved back to his home city last summer after it was made clear he was not a part of Antonio Conte’s plans at Tottenham.
He barely featured for Diego Simeone’s side, though, managing just 11 appearances and 303 minutes in La Liga this year as a series of injuries limited his time on the pitch.
That means Atlético will not be making a move to sign him on a permanent basis after the defender spent ‘more time in the infirmary than on the pitch’.
Even a late run at the end of the season has not been sufficient to convince anyone on him, with it suggested that he was only given a chance due to injuries and nothing more.
He has ‘already said goodbye’ to Atlético and will be returning to Tottenham, where it remains to be seen if he has any future under new manager Ange Postecoglou.
