Earlier on Friday, BT in Denmark stated Newcastle and Odense Boldklub have reached an agreement for the transfer of Yankuba Minteh for a fee close to €7m. It was also reported the Magpies will send him out on loan after completing the transfer.
This report surfaced after OB issued a statement on their official website the winger won’t be part of the squad to face FC Midtjylland this weekend as he’s close to sealing a move to a ‘foreign club’.
Stemmer Fra Ådalen, a website dedicating its coverage to the Danish club, interviewed OB football director Bjørn Wesstrøm. He was specifically asked about BT’s claim about the 18-year-old’s potential move to Newcastle.
Responding to that, he said: “They can write what they want. It is their newspaper.”
With Newcastle said to be the Gambian’s next destination, the outlet asked the Danish club’s chief as to what’s missing for the player’s sale to go through.
“There are some small things that we haven’t done yet, but we’re so close that we’re making this decision,” Wesstrøm explained.
The director was then asked to elaborate on how ‘close’ his side were to agreeing a deal for Minteh’s transfer, he said: “It’s difficult to speculate, because we are three parties that have to agree. If you ask me, we can come to an agreement today. But it’s not just me that’s part of it. We’ll have to see.”
There could either be more updates or an announcement on Minteh’s move to Newcastle in the next few hours.
