Celtic and Manchester United scouts were at the Estádio da Luz last night. According to Sapo, the emissaries are on the list of officials to be present at the game.
Benfica beat Belenenses 4-0, with the home side managing to impress once again. Celtic and Manchester United routinely scout matches in Portugal, with Jose Mourinho’s spies having the edge on those Brendan Rodgers sends, in terms of matches attended.
Still, Celtic scout more Portuguese matches than the vast majority of Premier League clubs, and Rodgers clearly has a plan to recruit from the country if he can.
Celtic are no strangers to watching Benfica, but they also seem to have a thing for Belenenses this season. That led to links with Fabio Sturgeon, but he moved elsewhere during the January transfer window.
It would be no surprise to see Celtic recruit some talent from Portugal in the summer, and what Rodgers has helped Moussa Dembele achieve will only work in favour of the Scottish Premiership side.
Manchester United watching Benfica will inevitably lead to links with Victor Lindelof and other Benfica players once again. Mourinho has a scout watch every Benfica match, as well as others around Portugal every week.
