SC Freiburg goalkeeper Mark Flekken is ‘on the verge’ of joining Brentford after they activated his €13m release clause.
That’s according to journalist Florian Plettenburg, who says there will be an ‘announcement soon’ on the player’s move to England.
He reports that Flekken will sign a contract with Brentford until 2027, with that deal very close to being done and only the last details left to be clarified on it.
He will move to Brentford soon, with them moving quickly to sign the goalkeeper, who has 13 clean sheets in the Bundesliga this season, by activating his release clause worth around €13m.
He will presumably join Thomas Frank’s squad as a replacement for current number one David Raya, who has been heavily linked with a move away from the club this summer following another season of impressive performances.
He finds himself linked to the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham after keeping 11 clean sheets in 37 games in the Premier League this season and any move away would leave Brentford with a major hole to fill.
They now appear to have moved quickly to plan ahead for that possibility, tying up a deal for Flekken that should be announced sooner rather than later.
