Picking up his first cap for Turkey when he was still playing second tier football, Caglar Söyüncü is certainly widely regarded as a great up and coming talent in his home country.
Transferring to SC Freiburg in the summer for just over £2m, his importance for the Bundesliga side this season (19 appearances, one assist) hasn’t gone unnoticed, as they sit comfortably mid table five points off the first European spot.
Add to that 36-year-old Marcin Wasilewski and an unused 29-year-old Yohan Benalouane, and their January signing Molla Wague (26) must feel incredibly young.
However, the Foxes aren’t the only ones with Söyüncü on their shortlist, as Kicker explain both Manchester United and Manchester City are also keeping an eye on the young defender.
Both José Mourinho and Pep Guardiola will be keen to strengthen their defence in the summer, with a battle for Benfica’s Victor Lindelöf already being hyped by the media, and the loser of said battle could very well turn to the young Turk as backup.
Despite this, Freiburg remain fairly confident of keeping their talented summer purchase beyond this season, with both the club’s director of football and the player himself explaining they didn’t see a transfer taking place at the end of the season.
Perhaps a nice juicy bid could change their mind?
