Following his good performances at the World Cup, Josip Juranovic, then at Celtic being managed by Ange Postecoglou, was an attractive opportunity for a lot of teams.
The Croatia international was being linked with moves to Manchester United and Chelsea, while some clubs in Italy were also keen on taking him away from Parkhead.
Celtic knew this was the right time to sell him, and they eventually did, allowing him to join Union Berlin, where he has immediately become a fan favourite with his performances.
He’s terribly happy there, as he made clear in an interview with rbb24 Radio, relayed by Sportschau, where he spoke of the interest of clubs and his decision to move to Union Berlin.
On his return to Celtic, he said: “First, I had the World Cup and then I read in the media that I would switch to Manchester United or Chelsea. You have to be realistic. It’s the right step for me (to go to Union Berlin). In my career, I’ve never taken two steps at once. I’m advancing my career step by step. I want to play, and that’s why I’m here.”
The 27-year-old had signed for Celtic back in the summer of 2021 from Legia Warsaw for €3m, and made 53 appearances in all competitions for the Scottish side, scoring six goals and assisting another three before Union Berlin paid €8.5m to take him to Germany.
