As transfer deadline day unfolded on Tuesday, one of the big stories, if you want to call it that, was the potential transfer of Moussa Dembélé from Celtic to Chelsea.
Of course, nothing came from it, as the French striker only travelled down to London for a knee scan, but Antonio Conte’s interest in the player did raise a few questions about the future of Michy Batshuayi.
On Monday, SFR Sport claimed the Italian manager had told Roman Abramovich he didn’t count on the Belgian striker anymore, leading to the interest in the Celtic forward.
Highly regarded in his home country, Batshuayi’s situation at Chelsea is become a bit of a problem, with former Belgium international Marc Degryse suggesting the player should leave at the first opportunity.
He told Play Sports, relayed by Le10 Sport, said: “He should say: ‘Enough, I want to leave’. I don’t think Conte needs him. If Chelsea don’t need him, they should let him play elsewhere. If this is all he does at Chelsea, might as well let him leave.”
Moving from Marseille in a £33.2m move to Stamford Bridge, the Belgian striker has scored seven goals and assisted teammates three times in 21 appearances.
Of those 21, 15 have come in the Premier League, totalling 90 minutes.
