Guessouma Fofana

Towards the beginning of January, French newspaper L’Equipe revealed an interest from Stoke City in Amiens midfielder Guessouma Fofana.

The 24-year-old, who was also a target for Steve Bruce’s Aston Villa, had been the subject of a bid from the Potters, only to see it get rejected by the Ligue 2 club, who deemed it ‘insufficient’ at the time.

Twenty-seven days later, and it appears the move to Stoke could finally happen, with the same newspaper reporting everything could be done in ‘a matter of hours’.

L’Equipe state a meeting is scheduled for Monday evening in order to finalise the negotiations with Mark Hughes’ side, and in turn decide whether or not the transfer should go ahead.

The final decision, it seems, will rest on whether or not Amiens can find a replacement for their key midfielder, who has made 19 appearances in all competitions for the small French club, picking up a goal and three assists along the way.

No fee has been revealed, but we can’t see this being a very expensive one.
