Chelsea midfielder Kai Havertz has backed Graham Potter for success at the club after making a ‘very good impression’ early on.
Potter was announced as the new Chelsea manager earlier this month following the surprise sacking of Thomas Tuchel.
The German coach was removed from his position following a defeat to Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League, a result which came amid a disappointing start to the season for the Blues.
Few had predicted that he would be sacked given Chelsea’s big spend in the summer, and the fact he led them to two cup finals last season and a Champions League win the previous year.
Chelsea owner Todd Boehly thought otherwise, though, electing to bring in Potter from Brighton to signal the start of a new era.
It seems, though, Havertz is already a fan, and he has backed Potter for success in a discussion regarding Tuchel’s departure.
“Me too,” Sport 1 report him saying when asked if he was ‘surprised’ by the decision.
“Especially when you consider how we have played in the past one and a half years and what we have won.
“You can’t talk about a messed-up start to the season with our current 6th place in the table, especially since we have a lot of newcomers who first have to acclimatise.
“But football is very fast-moving, a lot can happen at any time.
“Our new coach has made a very good impression; we have a great squad. I think we are in for a good time.”
