Manchester United are on a great run in the Premier League, winning their last four matches in the competition.
Erik ten Hag seems to be getting his ideas across and his signings have had a big impact already. Antony made his debut against Arsenal on Sunday, and was a big part of the 3-1 victory over the league leaders, scoring the opening goal.
Therefore, the manager is rightly receiving widespread praise, but it’s impossible to please everyone all of the time in football.
Wim Kieft, a former Netherlands international and now a prominent pundit in the Dutch media, has questioned Ten Hag’s decision to leave Cristiano Ronaldo out of his starting line-up.
Quoted by Soccer News, Kieft vented his frustration at Ronaldo not starting matches and said: “It continues to hurt my eyes. Come on… An unexpected end to a great career.”
He added: “Is he on the bench because he’s so bad, or has he become such a (we’ll block this word out, but it’s the common phrase for male genitalia)?”
Soccer News are certain Kieft is referring to Ten Hag there, not Ronaldo. It’s a strange attack given how well things are currently going for the Manchester United manager.
