It was close to the transfer deadline that Steven Alzate’s move from Brighton & Hove Albion to West Bromwich Albion was reported last night.
It was claimed by the English media that the striker was leaving the Seagulls to join the Baggies on a season-long loan, in search for more minutes in the Championship.
It turns out that the transfer was never confirmed, and according to reports from Colombia, there was actually no viable time for the player to switch from Brighton to West Brom.
Journalist Pipe Sierra writes that the player’s entourage ‘confirms’ that the FA ‘denied’ the possibility of extending the deadline for the move to be confirmed by the Baggies.
Despite being born in London, Alzate has Colombian heritage and even has six caps for the South American country.
That’s why some news about his future are reported by the local media.
The striker only has one appearance for Brighton this season, as he played and scored in an EFL Cup match against Forest Green.
He’d certainly have more chances to play by moving to West Brom, but maybe that’s a transfer left for later, and by that we mean January.
