On Monday morning, we covered French outlet Foot Mercato claiming that Newcastle United are ‘still fully’ in the chase to sign Hugo Ekitike from Reims.
It was said that despite the collapsed move in the January transfer window, the Magpies shall continue with their efforts for a potential move in the summer.
Now journalist Santi Aouna shares some more updates on the striker’s situation, following the player’s Instagram post showing he’s in Paris.
The report starts by claiming that Reims will refuse offers at €20m, pointing out that Newcastle had a deal to buy him for €35m in the winter, but Ekitike decided to stay.
Now with more clubs joining the competition, his value is set to go up, and potentially reach those winter figures.
The news for the Magpies is that not many clubs can compete with them for the signing. It’s said that Inter Milan and AC Milan both can’t fight either Newcastle or Paris Saint Germain in this race.
It’s still not completely clear how much Reims will demand for the move, as it seems they’ll see how far the auction can get. Of course, a lot will depend on what the player himself wants.
