Liverpool have been tentatively linked with Kylian Mbappe at various points over the past year or so, with claims recently coming from the French media.
At no point has there really seemed anything especially concrete, and the deal always looked like a hard one for the Reds to conclude, even with the PSG striker available on a free transfer.
Mbappe will be asking for wages which are far outside of Liverpool’s usual budget, and there’ll be a signing bonus and commissions on top of that.
Tuesday’s edition of Marca reports Jurgen Klopp’s side made an attempt for the signing ‘a few days ago’. According to the Spanish newspaper, the Premier League club have been watching the situation for a while, and decided to move.
That’s despite Marca making clear Liverpool were well aware the transfer would be very difficult to conclude.
It’s stated Mbappe is flattered by the interest but is instead choosing to following his ‘childhood dream’ and sign for Real Madrid.
Again, there’s a chance the interest from Anfield is being overstated so that if and when the player finally signs for Los Blancos, it can be presented as a win over Liverpool… who just so happen to be playing Real Madrid in the Champions League final.
