Following the departure of Sébastien Haller to Ajax Amsterdam, where the Ivory Coast international has exploded, West Ham United never signed a striker to replace him.
There have been many names associated with a move to the Hammers, but none have turned into anything overly concrete.
There is, however, a type of player David Moyes appears to be interested in for West Ham, with that being someone good in the air.
This was on show in January when it was reported the London club were following the performances of Strasbourg’s Ludovic Ajorque.
The towering striker, who stands at a good 6’4” tall, has enjoyed a good season, even if his second half of the campaign has been less exciting than the first.
With 12 goals and eight assists in 33 league appearances, there is certainly something to work with, which is why Lille are keen, according to La Voix du Nord.
It’s made clear that he won’t be cheap, because a ‘common ground’ will need to be found with Strasbourg, who could await ‘at least €15m for their striker’.
That’s an affordable fee for West Ham, by all means, but it remains to be seen if they are still interested.
They are mentioned by La Voix du Nord, who explain the Hammers ‘looked at him before changing their mind’, although why isn’t explained.
One reason, as per the article we covered from Foot Mercato in January, is that the Ligue 1 side weren’t interested in selling midway through the campaign; a stance which has clearly changed, with them more open to a deal this summer.
