Saturday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo has an article claiming Arsenal defender Gabriel has been offered to Barcelona, ahead of the summer window.
The 24-year-old has been a regular for Mikel Arteta this season, so any exit would be a surprise. Nevertheless, Mundo are adamant the Blaugrana have been presented the option of signing him.
This offer almost certainly won’t have come from Arsenal themselves, it will be agents trying to build a deal. There’s even a chance those agents don’t directly represent Gabriel and are just fishing for an opportunity.
Mundo Deportivo say Barcelona have considered the offer and decided to say no. They do plan on defensive additions in the coming windows, but the Brazilian isn’t on the list of players they’re seriously considering signing.
There’s also a belief that Arsenal would require €40m or more to let the player go, and Barcelona simply don’t contemplate spending that amount of money on a defender, instead looking for value options.
