In December Yohan Benalouane spoke to the Italian media about his relief a legal case over Fiorentina wages had been settled in his favour. The Leicester City owned player arrived at Fiorentina during the last winter transfer window but never played a game for the club due to injury.
Fiorentina felt they’d been deceived over his fitness and refused to pay the portion of his wages they were contracted for, so Benalouane took action and won the case.
Therefore, it’s somewhat eyebrow raising that Gazzetta dello Sport report on Friday that Benalouane could be an option for Bologna in the winter window.
It would surely be considered that Italian clubs would be wary of taking on the Leicester player given his serious fitness issues at Fiorentina, and the player himself may well have doubts too.
Since returning to Leicester, Benalouane hasn’t really been able to prove his fitness or form, and is clearly not in Claudio Ranieri’s core plans.
A solution needs to be found, maybe Bologna feel they can get a good deal, and one based on the player’s fitness.
