‘Chelsea have made a decision’ on the future of Saul Niguez, according to claims from Spain.
Outlet Sport writes that the Blues have decided not to trigger the buying option they have over the midfielder, and should now send him back to Atletico Madrid at the end of the season.
Loaned by the Colchoneros last summer, Saul had one year to prove himself at Chelsea, for whom he has only been able to play 760 minutes in 16 appearances so far.
Sport points out the Blues had the chance to make his move permanent for between €40m and €50m, and with the unimpressive loan he’s having in London, the decision not to keep him is already made.
The story says Saul left Atletico Madrid looking for ‘continuity’, and now that he could not find that in London, he has an ‘uncertain future’ at the Spanish club.
His contract with the Colchoneros runs until 2026, and it’s probably too early to guess whether he’ll have a new chance to find a place in Diego Simeone’s side.
