Rafael Leao has scored five goals and added three assists in 19 matches with AC Milan this season.
He’s been a regular starter for the club and is well on course to do better than his figures for the last campaign. Sky Italia, via Calciomercato, report Manchester City have been watching the player for some time.
Leao has ‘finally exploded’ into life at AC Milan, and it’s explained the player’s talents are now receiving more attention. Renewal negotiations are ongoing with the Rossoneri, and should they fail, then Manchester City can swoop in.
It’s stated Pep Guardiola’s side are ‘ready to take advantage’ of such a situation, likely finding it easier to convince the player if he doesn’t get an acceptable renewal offer.
Although Leao has a contract with AC Milan lasting until 2024, the report states he currently earns ‘less than €2m per season’. Even though that figure is almost certainly after tax, it’s low for a player of his level.
The Serie A club therefore want to take his pay to around €4m, and negotiations will see if that’s an acceptable amount.
Manchester City will therefore have to wait and see what happens, but there’s every chance the club’s name is being used to hype Leao and make his situation seem more dramatic.
