It’s not only at Manchester United that defender Victor Lindelof has been having a hard time.
The Swedish national team had last night the big chance of finishing the game on top of Group B of the World Cup Qualifiers, as all they needed was to beat Georgia away from home.
The Scandinavian side, however, ended up losing 2-0, and that sparked the anger of their fans, especially on social media, with the Manchester United player one of the players being blamed, along with Alexander Isak.
Lindelof made a mistake which led to Georgia’s second goal, and despite admitting his fault, fans were pretty harsh on him. That’s one of the reasons why members of the Swedish national team may take legal action for all the abuse he got.
“Andreas Hård and I sat up last night and went through everything and took screenshots and saved comments, according to the routine we always have nowadays when this type of comment tends to come,” security manager Martin Fredman said (via Fotbollskanalen).
“Regardless of crime or not, it’s tiring and sad how some who call themselves our supporters choose to behave towards the boys through their gross abuse on various social media and platforms. In this context, however, mention should be made of all the encouraging comments that the players receive and which in number are considerably more than people who choose hatred and insults.”
“We will talk to each other about how we should do now. We have also involved our lawyers for reconciliation about the possible different crimes it may be about and how we will proceed next week when this collection is over, but we will probably play the match against Spain and make a decision after that.”
Sweden’s only chance of finishing on top of the group now is by beating Spain in Seville on Sunday, which will be a tough task for the Manchester United player and his compatriots.
