Jose Mourinho is eyeing a move for Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek as he looks to make at least three signings in January.
That’s according to Calciomercato, who say the Blues midfielder is an alternative to Borussia Mönchegladbach’s Denis Zakaria.
The website explains that Mourinho’s recent comments about his players were seen as attacks and a clear message to his ownership that he wants at least three signings in January.
The ‘main target’ for the midfield is Zakaria, and there are talks planned between Tiago Pinto and the Swiss midfielder’s agents for the next few days.
Borussia Mönchegladbach has also received some ‘interesting offers’ from English clubs, though, so Roma run the risk of missing out.
Thus, they and Mourinho have started looking at a number of ‘alternative avenues’, and Chelsea midfielder Loftus-Cheek is one of them.
Mourinho actually handed the midfielder his debut at Chelsea, and he remains a fan of the 25-year-old to this day.
There is also the fact he can be gotten for relatively cheap, with Chelsea looking for ‘less than €15m’ according to CM.
Whether there’s actually any inclination at Stamford Bridge to sell isn’t mentioned, but the fact there’s an asking price, which surely in reality would be higher, would suggest there’s some openness to it.
That would make sense as Loftus-Cheek isn’t exactly a key player under Thomas Tuchel, and the Blues do have plenty of options in that area of the team.
At this point, it seems he’s just an option for Roma, but this could be one that picks up pace the closer we get to the January window.
