Brazilian side Corinthians had yesterday a big party for their anniversary, with several announcements for the fans. One of them was the signing of Willian.

The winger, who grew up at the club and left for Europe at the age of 19, has now returned after rescinding his contract with Arsenal.

His presentation was broadcasted live on Instagram, and the player claimed that when leaving the Gunners, he only had one option in mind.

“To make this decision, we have to think about everything, about the whole situation. But when I saw that it was only Corinthians. Some clubs tried to cross, but I said ‘no, it’s just Corinthians”, said Willian (via ESPN).

“I want to thank the president, the entire board for all the effort to get me back, the players, all the fans. A person who dreamed of my return, my mother, unfortunately, is not among us. Thanking my family, my wife, my father, my daughters, everyone who is here rooting for me. I can’t wait to start playing.”

Earlier this week, the Brazilian media had reports showing that his move to Corinthians was the only way that Arsenal would let him leave the club for free.

Even though the Gunners seem happy to get rid of his salary, as his staff believes he’s taking a pay cut of over 70%, it’s been said Edu Gaspar didn’t want to release the player and see him reinforcing any English or European rivals.

That’s why Willian had to show Arsenal the offer he had from Corinthians before terminating his contract with the London side, thus allowing him to return to Brazil.
