Everton have not been in contact with Benfica about a possible move for Andre Gomes this summer.
That’s according to A Bola, who say ‘there was no contact between the clubs’ regarding the Portuguese midfielder so far.
Gomes has been linked with a move away from Goodison Park this summer, with Rafa Benitez having reportedly put him on the list of players he would be happy to see leave.
Reports in England have stated that a return to Portugal could be on the cards, with it claimed that he could be set for a return to former club Benfica.
Indeed, those reports stated that the Portuguese giants had already been in touch with Everton about a potential move and Gomes’ absence from the Blues pre-season tour of America only fuelled speculation.
A Bola have moved to quash any talk before it begins, though, insisting that according to their information, there has been no contact between Everton and Benfica regarding the 27-year-old.
Furthermore, they suggest any move is unlikely as Benfica are well stocked in that area and Gomes would require ‘a high investment’, even if he was only joining on loan.
The suggestion is that Benfica simply couldn’t afford him, meaning we can probably put this one to one side for the time being.
