Manchester City star İlkay Gündoğan has emerged as a new transfer target for Barcelona.
The La Liga side were keen to sign Georginio Wijnaldum on a free transfer, but the outgoing Liverpool player is getting closer to Paris Saint-Germain.
Sport explained PSG have tempted the Dutchman with a better proposal, which the Catalan club are unwilling to match.
The situation with Wijnaldum has forced Ronald Koeman’s side to look for other targets and this is where Gündoğan has been identified as an alternative.
It’s claimed the ‘good relations’ between the Spanish club and Pep Guardiola’s side can ‘open the door for a transfer’.
The Germany international has been one of the standout performers for the Premier League winners, as he finished the 2020/21 season with 17 goals and five assists in all competitions.
Barcelona looked at the current City player in 2015, when he was with Borussia Dortmund.
The newspaper states Gündoğan underwent medical tests with the Camp Nou side, but the deal was never closed in 2015.
Sport state fate could give Barcelona a ‘second chance’ to sign Gündoğan, if ‘all the stars align’. Apart from the midfielder, the Spanish giants also have their eyes on Gabriel Jesus.
