Bayer Leverkusen will not let Edmond Tapsoba leave the club this summer and are ‘unconcerned’ about the interest being shown by Arsenal.
That’s according to BILD, who say the Bundesliga side have absolutely no interest in talking about a deal, and only a ‘mega offer’ could change that attitude.
Tapsoba has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates in the last few weeks, with it believed the Gunners have identified him as their number one defensive target.
From the outset, it’s been made clear that Leverkusen are not interested in a sale, with it recently explained they would need to offer a fee in the range of what Chelsea paid for Kai Havertz last summer.
BILD pick up on that today and state that the club are looking to build their new defence around Tapsoba and so will not allow him to leave.
They are ‘unconcerned’ about the reports about interest from Arsenal, with sporting director Simon Rolfes stating that “Edmond should continue to play a very important role for us next season” when asked about it specifically.
Their comfort comes from the fact Tapsoba extended his deal at the club until 2026 just before Christmas and so they can demand a top price for him.
Indeed, ‘only a mega offer’ of more than €70m could ‘change the attitude’ at the club, but in the post Covid world, it’s ‘unlikely’ anyone is going to pay that, certainly not Arsenal.
