Arsenal are unlikely to be able to keep Martin Odegaard beyond this summer, with Real Madrid keen to have him back following his loan spell.
The Norwegian midfielder is currently on loan at the Emirates until the end of the season, having pushed for a move away from the Bernabeu after barely featuring under Zinedine Zidane this season.
Like several players at the Spanish club, his relationship with Zidane is not the best, with the Frenchman having failed to show any faith to the youngster or give him his chance to impress.
That has led to reports that Odegaard may push to stay away from the Bernabeu next season as well, with a potential extension of his loan at Arsenal, something that he would apparently be open to.
They explain that it was made clear from the get-go that the Spanish giants wanted him back in the summer, and he left with that idea clear in his mind.
Madrid are said to have ‘blind faith’ in Odegaard and believe he is going to be a ‘fundamental piece’ in the ‘immediate future’ of the team.
Thus, they are not interested in letting him go, either temporarily or permanently, next season.
MARCA also explain that his lack of displays for Madrid this season were caused by several factors, chief among them tendinitis in his knee, which has not left him in peace until a few weeks ago.
That has now disappeared, and ‘Odegaard is starting to become Odegaard’ again while at Arsenal, who it seems would do well to enjoy him while they have him.
