After two and a half years at Swansea, where he made just 18 appearances, Joel Asoro returned to his home country this January, with a move to Djurgardens IF.
The 21-year-old moved there permanently on Monday, where he sat down with his new club to discuss his career.
Speaking directly to Djurgardens IF, the former Sunderland and Swansea forward was asked about his football journey so far, having already played in England, Wales, Holland and Italy.
He said: “I moved abroad to Sunderland when I was 15 years old. A warm and kind club that took very good care of me and where it went well for me.
“I was there for three years, and I moved to Swansea, where I was for a year and then went on loan to Groningen. After that I went on loan to Genoa, came back again and now I’m at Djurgardens”.
Asoro explained his time at the Stadium of Light and Liberty Stadium helped him ‘gain a lot of experience’ and ‘develop a lot both as a player and a person’.
He also added that moves abroad helped him ‘learn a lot about the cultures in the countries as well, so it’s been instructive to go through the whole period’.
This will be Asoro’s first time playing in Sweden since leaving IF Bromma’s U19s back in 2015 for Sunderland, and he seems keen to get back to his roots, wanting to ‘write club history’ in the process, if he can.
