Over the past couple of weeks, there have been a few rumours in Italy that AS Roma could turn their attention to Victor Orta as they search for a new director of football.
The Spaniard’s name has been placed on their list, with multiple accounts confirming that, with his hard work at Leeds United not going unnoticed, being key to helping Marcelo Bielsa succeed at the helm at Elland Road.
As we relayed these reports, we explained Orta was close to Monchi, who had an unsuccessful time in Rome as director of football, and we suggested that might influence on whether or not he could take the job were it to be offered.
Well, fast forward to Monday, and Corriere dello Sport have an update on Roma’s hunt for their man.
The Italian newspaper go through each candidate, with Fabio Paratici seemingly the favourite right now, before Orta gets mentioned towards the end.
It’s explained the Leeds director is ‘liked’, but right now, ‘he can be considered an outsider’ for the role in Italy’s capital.
That’s good news for everyone at Elland Road, such as Andrea Radrizzani, as it appears there’s a very good chance Orta might never be approached by the Serie A side, allowing him to focus solely on his role at the Premier League club without any distractions.
