Moving to Tottenham Hotspur, getting a big pay hike, and becoming a Premier League footballer would be a dream for many youngsters around the world, and also for players currently living that reality.
Speaking to Helden, Tottenham striker Vincent Janssen has been asked if he ever feels like he’s dreaming, given that he’s living what many people want to do. The 22 year old replied: “Sometimes, when I walk into the garage and start my car. But when I see at the training ground the cars of the other players arrive…”
Asked why he chose Tottenham rather than Wolfsburg, a transfer to Spain, or another club in the Premier League, Janssen said there’s just a good vibe around the place, and used Nixon as an example of that: “That pleasant feeling.
“Team manager Allan Dixon was in the first five days all over me. He came to pick me up, took me to training, has guided me around London houses, went to look for a car with me, went to eat with me and showed me all the shops. If I need him, he is there.”
Also helping Janssen settle is the fact that several of his teammates played in the Eredivisie, and that helped with language: “It’s good that I can occasionally talk Dutch. Nacer Chadli was there in the beginning too, Victor Wanyama has played in Belgium and understands Dutch. If you are new, it is nice that you know through the Dutch speaking players how other players are getting at each other. And occasionally I do not understand the coach, it’s also nice that they can help me.”
Tottenham’s big happy, partly Dutch speaking, family has clearly made Janssen feel completely settled already.
