Zulte Waregem defender Bryan Verboom has told the Belgian media a move to Leeds United fell through during the last window. The left back was linked with a move to England, but this could still happen in the next window.

Voetbal Nieuws have reported on comments Verboom made when asked about Leeds United’s attempts to sign him in the summer. The defender revealed Zulte Waregem wouldn’t have stood in his way, but first they needed to find a replacement.

The 24-year-old explained because they were unable to sign a new left back before the deadline it was decided the best thing was to remain in Belgium.

“It was not that Zulte Waregem wanted the transfer, but they wanted to first find a replacement for me. This did not happen for them so it was better that I stayed,” said the Belgian defender.

Despite Verboom’s proposed move to Leeds United breaking down late into the last window, a move could still happen in the New Year according to claims in Belgium.

We covered reports yesterday that since Brian Hamalainen was recalled to Zulte Waregem from Racing Genk, Verboom has watched from the sidelines for most the season, which could force him to find a new club in January.
