As well as in a search for a centre-back and a striker, Tottenham are still keeping an eye on the defensive midfield market.
It’s one Arsenal have been sieving through during the entire transfer window without much luck, with Amadou Diawara the likeliest of all their targets to arrive at the Emirates.
Likely to cost half of what Thomas Partey would go for, the Guinean, who impressed greatly in the post-Covid-19 break run in, has found himself in the middle of a strange situation in Rome.
Starting the season opener against Hellas Verona, which initially ended 0-0, Diawara then found out he was selected without actually being registered, leading to Roma having to forfeit the result and officially registering a 3-0 loss to Ivan Jurić’s side.
He was then left on the bench for the game against Juventus, which is where Tottenham and Arsenal come in, as it’s reported by Il Messaggero that both North London club ‘have called his agent’.
The representative is said to be ‘angry’ with Roma because ‘[Guido] Fienga has not met with him lately’, recently coming out to say they were seeking ‘clarity on the real role and importance of Amadou in the club’s project’ following the registration mistake and his demotion from the first-team.
This sounds like an opportunity for Spurs and the Gunners to swoop in late on for the 23-year-old, and it’s even suggested, once again, that Mikel Arteta’s side could be ready to include Lucas Torreira in the operation.
Either way, it’s one to keep an eye on, and while most clubs appear to be done, the London duo appear to still be rather active.
