Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti is ‘focusing’ on Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos as he looks to add to his forward line this summer.
That’s according to Area Napoli, who cover their interest as part of a wide-ranging piece about the Italian side’s various opportunities this summer.
One of those is Brazilian forward Everton, who has long been linked with a move to Naples but is yet to finalise a deal.
Several clubs are thought to be keen on him, and one of those heavily linked are Everton, who have regularly been named as suitors and reportedly made several offers.
Similarly to the Serie A side, nothing has ever came to fruition, and according to Area Napoli, that is because Ancelotti has his sights set elsewhere.
They explain that he is instead focusing on Rangers’ Alfredo Morelos, who has also been offered to Napoli via intermediaries.
He has also been regularly linked with a move this summer, particularly to the Premier League and if this claim is to be believed, Everton have joined the list of suitors.
That, though, would make little sense. Funds are likely to be tight at Goodison Park this summer, and while Morelos is unlikely to have a huge asking price, they will want to spend their money elsewhere.
There would also be little logic in signing another striker when Ancelotti already had Richarlison, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Moise Kean.
The latter has barely been used this season, but Everton’s manager has made it clear that will change next year, so spending money on a fourth striker won’t be high up the list.
Perhaps that will change should someone leave, namely Kean, but until that point, this can probably be filed away as agent talk.
