Leeds United will have to pay €21m to RB Leipzig for striker Jean-Kevin Augustin this summer should they secure promotion to the Premier League.
That’s according to SportBild, who back up claims from Kicker regarding an obligation to buy the striker as part of his loan move to Elland Road.
The Frenchman joined Leeds on loan in the January transfer window as Marcelo Bielsa sought out extra firepower to ensure promotion was not missed out on this year.
His time at the club has not been auspicious thus far, with him managing just three appearances and 48 minutes of football so far.
They explain that Leipzig had negotiated an obligatory €21m fee with Leeds for him, something that was described as an ‘unexpected bonus’ for them.
SportBild now back that up, stating that the €21m will ‘flow into RB’s coffers’ when Leeds move into the Premier League.
Of course, that is all dependant on them securing promotion this year. Bielsa’s side are certainly well placed to do so given they’re top of the Championship table at present.
However, much will depend on what kind of form they return in after the enforced break and whether they can pick up where they left off or fall by the wayside as they did last year.
