Sheffield Wednesday defender David Bates is set to return to Hamburg this summer when his loan deal expires at the Championship club.
That’s according to Hamburger Mortenpost, who report that Sheffield Wednesday have ‘no interest’ in extending his stay.
The Scottish defender joined Sheffield Wednesday on loan in the summer transfer window as the club looked to shore up their defensive options.
However, his year at the club has been nothing short of a disaster with him managing just one appearance all season in the 1-0 win over Rotherham in the EFL Cup in August.
He’s now completely out of the picture at Hillsborough, with manager Garry Monk having made it clear he will not be included in the team for the remainder of the season.
And that also means he will also not be staying at the club beyond this summer, with Sheffield Wednesday showing no interest in extending his stay beyond July 1st.
MOPO explain that there is a feeling that his time at Sheffield Wednesday has gone ‘badly wrong’, with his value having fallen from €2m to €475,000 as a result of his complete lack of minutes.
When he does return, he will find himself on the hunt for a new club, as he has ‘no future’ at Hamburg either.
Despite the club suffering a ‘defensive crisis’ they are not keen on the 23-year-old and will not put ‘any obstacles in the way’ should any club come calling.
