Last week saw claims from the English media that Odion Ighalo was set to leave Manchester United, and wouldn’t be able to finish the season with them.
It would have been a blow for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and for the player himself. Ighalo was thrilled with his loan move from Shanghai Shenhua to Old Trafford in the winter window, and impressed enough in the few matches he played to suggest he could have helped them get Champions League football.
Those English claims were quickly dismissed by Ladi Salami, who was described by Foot Mercato as a representative of the player.
He told the French website: “Firstly, he feels very good in Manchester with whom he’s close to a wage agreement. Talks with the Chinese are ongoing and going well.”
Now that’s been further backed up by Atta Aneke, who Nettavisen present as the player’s agent. Speaking to Jonas Giæver, he’s said that those involved are negotiating an extended loan which would allow Ighalo to stay at Manchester United until January 2021.
Further pressed on when that agreement was likely to happen, Aneke is quoted as saying: “During the day.”
Should he be correct then Solskjaer is in for some good transfer news today.
