Newcastle United have set their sights on Benfica goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos but will face resistance from Benfica in any attempt to sign him.
Sport 24 in Greece report that the Magpies are set to return with a bid for the Benfica goalkeeper having first been linked with him last summer.
They have a ‘very good view’ of the Greek international and have already made an ‘exploratory contact’ ahead of a possible move once their taken over by an investment consortium from Saudi Arabia is finalised.
Sport24 believe Benfica have set a €20m asking price on their man, who has become a key player under coach Bruno Lage.
However, Record dispute those claims and insist that Benfica have no desire to discuss a deal for the goalkeeper.
They cover the report from the Greek newspaper and counteract it, saying that Benfica ‘do not intend’ to sell Vlachodimos to Newcastle.
They explained that the Portuguese club are ‘armoured’ by a €60m release clause they put into the 26-year-old’s contract when he signed a deal until 2024 in August last year.
Since then the goalkeeper has shown his ‘growing importance’ for the Liga Nos side, indicating they will demand his release clause be paid before selling.
O Jogo back up these claims, stating that according to their information, talk of Newcastle having held talks already are false and ‘did not happen’.
