Everton remain ‘in pole position’ to sign Lille defender Gabriel Magalhães, but the defender is yet to finalise the move.
That’s according to Le 10 Sport, who have a big update on the defender’s future and a potential move to Goodison Park today.
The website explains that while reports in England insist his move to Merseyside is completed, that is not entirely the case.
Everton have so far made ‘one of the best’ offers for the player, putting down a bid of €30m plus €5m in various bonuses.
The player has also visited the club’s facilities and spoken to manager Carlo Ancelotti, who has made it clear he ‘very much wishes’ for the defender to join the club.
However, it is Gabriel who is holding things up. He is waiting to see if other proposals come his way, with several other Premier League clubs thought to be on the brink of making a move.
Chelsea are chief among them and recently contacted Lille’s managers to discuss Gabriel and Victor Osimhen, although they are yet to make a move.
Arsenal are also ‘attentive’ while there is a belief that Leicester City are ready to make an offer in excess of the €35m that Everton have put forward.
Gabriel is, therefore, waiting to see what happens, with the prospect of playing for Chelsea far more attractive than Everton at this moment in time.
Ancelotti and co will, therefore, have to wait to see what he decides, with the player’s future set to be decided ‘in the next days or weeks’.
