A very small claim from Calciomercato on Sunday evening has now spread widely in the Italian sport media.
Whilst the claims was short in words, with just two small sentences, what was said has clearly caught attention.
Calciomercato reported West Ham have moved for Lazio’s Joaquin Correa ‘in recent days’. The Rome club immediately knocked back the Hammers, determined to keep their player, and there’s no further development.
Correa is a 25 year old attacker, and in 26 appearances for Lazio this season he’s scored eight goals and added five assists. That’s not a bad return, considering many of the appearances weren’t the full ninety minutes.
He last signed a contract with Lazio in October 2019, and that runs until June 2024. Given that, it’s unlikely West Ham are being used to try and push Lazio into a renewal, it feels a little early for that.
There’s probably going to be more on this in the coming days, but it can’t be ruled that an agent is trying to build a deal for the Hammers.
