Inter Milan have identified Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as a replacement for Lautaro Martínez should he leave the club this summer.
The Argentine is in high demand after scoring 16 goals in 31 games this season, with Manchester City and Barcelona particularly keen on his signature.
FC Inter News explain that will only happen if either of those clubs pay his €111m release clause but, should that happen, then Inter have a plan in place to replace him.
They intend to move for Aubameyang, who is expected to leave Arsenal this summer as his contract expires next year and he is yet to show any sign he will sign an extension.
The website explains that Antonio Conte is a fan of the Gabon striker because he is good at playing in a two up front, has ‘great quality’ and international experience to boot.
Inter chief Beppe Marotta also appreciates him because of the fact his contract is expiring next summer, which brings down his asking price considerably.
They consider him a ‘market opportunity’ because even if Arsenal demand €55m, they believe they can get it down to €40-45m, which would be ‘within reach’ if they were to sell Martínez.
They would be willing t give Aubameyang a three-year deal with an option of a fourth on wages around €10m-a-year, the same as current top earners Romelu Lukaku and Christian Eriksen.
That would be less than the €12m he currently earns at Arsenal, but that price was set to drop if he signed an extension anyway.
