Swedish defender Martin Olsson has spoken to his home country’s media on Thursday, talking about his current situation at Helsingborg.

The 31-year-old had been a free agent for most of the current season, since he couldn’t find a club when leaving Swansea City last summer, and now signed a three-month deal.

Olsson even had a chance to stay in the Championship, since he’d negotiated and even trained at West Bromwich Albion. The Swedish media had previously reported these talks, and now he’s clarified how things really happened.

Olsson was asked if it was an injury which stopped the deal, but he says it was actually some paperwork problem.

“No not at all. The apartment was ready, everything was ready, but there was a bit of a mess there with some player, and the sports manager couldn’t get that part done,” Olsson told Fotboll Skane.

“It kind of ruined my business there. But it was a little minor, and didn’t have to do with my old injury. But it was very close, everything was clear. Only the signature was missing.”

Asked about how he felt once the deal collapsed, Olsson didn’t hide that there was a hard feeling.

“It was obviously a little sour. They were one in the Championship and were on their way up. I know most of the players in the team as well, because I have met them for so long. That’s the kind of thing that can happen.”

Now Olsson claims to be completely fit, and doesn’t rule out the possibility of extending his deal with the Swedish side to stay in the country.

“We only take it one step at a time, and when it comes down to it we have to sit down again and talk, and see what happens. But of course I’m here to play and give a hundred percent. I didn’t come here to keep going for myself and then go abroad. So we’ll see what happens. Right now I’m focusing on HIF.”

Martin Olsson leaves behind a good career in the UK, with 142 appearances for Blackburn Rovers, 129 more for Norwich City, and 75 for Swansea City.
