After parting ways with midfielder John Obi Mikel, Trabzonspor have begun their search to replace the Nigerian and Fotomac report the leading candidate at the moment is Aston Villa’s Marvelous Nakamba.
Yesterday we covered reports from Turkey that the Aston Villa midfielder was seen as an option for the Super Lig side and now it appears he is their prime target.
The midfielder joined the Premier League club from Club Brugge at the start of the season and established himself as a regular in Dean Smith’s side.
It’s reported Trabzonspor president Ahmet Agaoglu is looking to get players from the clubs that could be relegated from the Premier League, and it seems they will make a move for Nakamba if Villa don’t maintain their Premier League status for next season: “We are following England, getting players from the relegated teams is a sensible strategy. It’s also economically good for us.”
This is a route Turkish clubs have tried on a number of occasions, and it’s around this time of year that they start to look at who may be relegated, and the signings potentially available.
Nakamba has made 26 appearances in all competitions this season and is under contract at Villa Park until June 2024.
